((Oh dear. I go away for a night, and come back to you two about to kill each other. If only there was some way I could help...))
Trial #3- Tastes like lime jelly...
Both "heroes" wander through the tunnels for some time, bantering back and forth. Although coming up with witty responses sure makes the time fly, this hike was starting to become worrying. Hadn't you passed that rock before? It almost seems like this tunnel had curved into a full circle.
Eventually, the dim lights in the tunnel started to get brighter. A few more steps, and the way before you opened up into a massive underground cave. Torches hung from the walls, giving enough light for you to see that there was no way ahead. In front of you sprawled a massive chasm. You could see the other side, and what seemed like the way out, but from back here, the hole was a lot more impressive...

((We're not about to kill each other... yet. Right, Borg? ))
"Well" Swix said as she came to a halt near the edge of the yawning chasm "logically, there's clearly no way over this. You should give up and go home" she sent the machine that last jab, then turned and used a tendril to reach up and grab a torch. She wanted to use the torchlight and her limb to sweep the dark of the underground and try to see if there was any way down from this side.

((... My, what a large hole! ))
If the machine scoffed, as much as a machine can, at the use of a torch as it once again cycled through it's many vision modes to best see into the chasm.
It's motor systems, even pushed as far as they could be without destroying them, would not be able to vault the Artificer across the gap.

((“ it's not like you could possibly get it wrong again...†... Is this Claymolder we are talking about?))
“GAH!â€Â
This obviously not an affliction the Claymolder anticipated. For the turnabout of his enchantments' natural energies and the overwhelming aura of the vitrolic blast resonated throughout his being. Kneeling over, an intense pressure from his core battered about inside. Clearly, this kind of magic had a slight reaction to him.
Why!? Pain! How could this affected me viciously!?
Near his limit, he arched his back violently, as the billowing smog forced its way through his jaws. The vibrant rainbow orchestra of colors channeled out forth its vessel, until his depleted the reserves. With an exhausted Grathon gasping for breath.
Must... try... again...
Picking himself up, he nearly heaved another 'art-piece' as he approached the stone once more. Going with his for next guess, he stumbled forward and accidentally pressed “A†in the process of contemplation.

Grabbing one of the torches, you crouch on the edge of the yawning chasm. Below you, it just seems dark, until you lower your light source. Remarkably, the light shines back off something probably a couple feet down.
There seems to be an expanse of some kind of gelatinous material, completely filling the entire hole. An ember falls off your torch, landing on a bit of the gel before it burns it away into think green smoke.

"Hmm" Swix mused, then kicked down a rock from where she was crouched on the edge. She wanted to see what would happen to it. She also sent her other shoulder tendril down to the mass, to tentatively poke it.

The Artificer would see exactly what Swix saw, though with the added benefit of better vision, the robot could spot dust suspended in the jelly and....
...was that light from underneath?

The Artificer studied the mass, and decided that it would be possible to move through it, although extremely strenuous. Retracting the metal cloak fully, it dived into the substance and swam as hard as it could.
It could snap a tree in two with enough effort, what trouble would a bit of gelatinous substance be?

((Did you just puke Rainbows...?))
Pressing the A caused the letter to glow again. You knew, seconds before you felt the energy once more, that you had gotten it wrong again. Your clay body pulsed, flashed and was wracked with nausea, dizziness, and changes far, far worse than the first infliction.
You shrank to about a third of your regular height, and turned truely green. Black, patchy spots spread up your arms, and into your back, as well as that wavy light line where your spine should be. Your hands and feet became elongated, and webbed, while your head... well all of you...
Well you looked like a big frog, on two feet. How long you could manage to hold that pose was up to you, as your body, internally and the shell, had not been designed with being bipedal in mind.
But hey... you can always try again....

When you threw a rock into the jelly, you just had a mere second to get out of the way. The substance compressed around the stone, and launched it back high into the air. You could probably walk on it, if you moved as though you were on the moon, just as long as nobody did anything stupid like dive headfirst into it.

Wow.
You actually dived headfirst into it.
I can't even begin to fathom why you thought that was a good idea. The jelly should be extremely corrosive. That would fix you. You would have no face.
Well, less of a face.
Anyway, the jelly isn't corrosive. But it works just as well on space robots as it does small stones. Your little stunt caused the stuff to compress around your head, then launch back with enough force to snap the average human's spine off. Arcing high into the air, you slam into the rocky ceiling at high speed, and high force, then begin to fall back down to this trampoline of death.

((Bahahaha!))
Well this method, whilst highly inefficient, did seem to show one thing. The substance was solid enough for slicing it apart to have a chance of working.
Assuming it wasn't magical.
After crashing into the ceiling, the Artificer materialised the scythe and thrust towards the jelly on the way down. In theory the substance should split as it fell, the blade cutting into it through several dimensions.
Assuming it wasn't magical.
Then the Artificer could keep swinging away at the substance to investigate the light, clearing a path for itself...

This time, Swix took the less impatient route after noticing the way the rock and the robot bounced. The woman lowered herself onto the gelatinous mass gently, still holding the torch, and tried to 'moonwalk' across it.
