GameCity is back in my hometown at the end of this month, with a lot of events and talks again. But, this one is special and has me quite jittery with excitement. See, you can pretty much consider me a Legend of Zelda fan, and on the Saturday near the end, you know what's gonna happen? Nottinghams Old Market Square will be transformed into Hyrule Market Town for the day! You can even learn to play the Ocarina! And we'll see the first play of Skyward Sword before it gets released over here in November! How awesome is that? :D :D :D.

And it starts at 10, so my work need not ruin it! I can go and bring back pictures before 2:30!

So... I probably should've updated this a while ago but I didn't, and since I'm here now I'll do it ... now.

The LoZ 'takeover' of Old Market Square was, well, a mixed affair of both disappointment and exceeding expectations.

For one thing, calling it a takeover was a massive exaggeration as the whole thing took place inside a large white tent-that had a paper mache tree with bunting wrapped around the top and benches in a circle around the bottom. And noone could see any plays of Skyward Sword since that was behind a large screen on a stage that was showing the two people on the stage but bigger, or 'Zelda Anniversary' on it. That's all the disappointments, now for the better parts.

The better parts being, they were handing out cake from two large birthday cakes, which were very nice. They were also handing out 'milk' in these small cups which got us all intrigued watching peoples reactions to it. See, people who hadn't had any were making comments like 'I've never seen anyone get so excited over milk before' and people who had had some had the total opposite reaction. And I've got to say it 'was' awesome stuff, like very thick and very, very sweet milkshake. There were also screens set up on either side where you could play previous zelda games, with awesome artwork covering the boards around them. We also got free Nintendo magazines, and there was 'swordfighting' session with wooden swords-people learned how to fight like Link, complete with the game sound effects everytime they clashed!

There was a costume competition at two, which I unfortunately missed as I had to go to work-though I did get to see people dressed up for the competition and a lot of them were pretty good too ^_^.

But the best thing was that everyone got a working blue Ocarina at the door :D.

There was a class on how to play them then an orchestra competition with them for a golden ocarina, but I missed them too :(.

Oh and there was a guy just outside the tent walking his dog with a beautiful tame owl on his shoulder. I'm pretty sure that had nothing to do with the Zelda Anniversary but it was a bonus anyway.

I have pictures but i'll have to put them up later ;)

Here are the pictures!

This is the stand next to the Zelda tent, which was Battlefield 3. You can see how, errr, popular it was XD.

These three show the swordfighting with wooden swords that people were doing.
