The Diary of Billiam Trasshkan

With all these neat looks into the lives of adventurers floating around lately, I figured I might as well do one of my own! So I managed to find the old rouge-like game NetHack, installed it on my iPod, and have been swiftly dying ever since. I offer no guarantee of the length of this story, as I may simply die yet another silly death, causing the game to delete my save file. But I'll try to be careful.

So, for your consideration, The Diary of Billiam Trasshkan the Tourist...

Today, I awoke in a Dungeon.

This may not seem to be such a feat to the casual observer, but I assure you, in this electronic age, one does not simply end up in a dungeon unless they are playing an RPG. I mean, I didn't mean to awaken in a dungeon (who would!?), and for the life of me, I can't seem to remember the night leading up to me being dungeoned, in any solid detail.

The last thing I do remember was winning this trip. After packing and flying the long flight alone to this 'untouched island paradise', I found it was exactly as described- untouched. I had been expecting at least some kind of special accommodation, but upon arriving, I discovered the 'resort' to be little more than shabby cottages spread over a tight area near the beach. After settling in, (and finding a large infestation of bugs in the bathroom), I had decided no matter how gloomy this trip turned out to be, I would attempt to make the best of it.

Obviously, I would need copious amounts of Alcohol.

Infiltrating the 'beach party' that night proved simple- all you needed was a Hawaiian Shirt, so I was pretty much immediately headed straight to the bar.... and that's it. I woke up here.

You know, it's just dawned on me that's probably where all my money went.

Now that me, and you, the stranger reading my private journals, are more or less 'caught up', I can now further my harrowing adventure. Like earlier mentioned, I spent my morning in a Dungeon, laying next to my suitcase, looking up at a large hole in the ceiling. Judging by the rubble around me, and the general pain in my backside, I can only assume I have fallen into the leftover ruins of whatever civilization colonized this island. Probably after wandering off in a drunken stupor.

But that doesn't matter anymore. I must simply find a way out of here.

It has been a couple of hours since I last sat down to write. I have spent the time familiarizing myself with my surroundings, and as desparately as I tried, there is simply no way to exit back out through the way I came. The gap in the ceiling is far out of reach and right in the middle of the room I'm in, preventing any hope of climbing over to it.

After numerous failed attempts at escape, I've decided I just may have to buckle down and make do in the little room I have here. With that in mind, I decided to do a quick inventory, leading to the rediscovery of my suitcase. As I opened it up, I first found a hastily scrawled note, simply stating "For the quest...". Under it was several bundles of various food wrapped in napkins. I am not sure what thoughts were running through my head last night, but I am grateful.

Along with the food, I found a couple scraps of paper, my camera, credit credit, and what seems to be all the darts from the bar. While these may all be fine and dandy for a vacation, I doubt they will have much use here.

I'm thinking of looking around further in these dungeons. From what I can tell, there are three paths leading out from my room, one with an ancient looking wooden door. Now that I don't have to worry about food, I have to say the thrill of exploration is settling in. I've already found a pair of old boots in the corner of the dungeon, who knows what might turn up while I wait for rescue...

I can't believe my eyes.

I've done some exploring of the corridors here, and the things I have found...

I currently have in my posession a warriors spear, a shabby looking dagger and an iron skull cap. These items could be worth thousands to a collector... I can't even...

I found Sixty one Gold Pieces...

Unfortunately these treasures almost came at a cost...

While exploring the dark tunnels of the dungeon unaware, I was suddenly caught off guard by a flash of orange. It caught me on my arm, leaving painful scratches while forcing me against the old brick wall. I flailed, connecting with it's furry body briefly before it rounded again. Just then, a hiss and streak of white dashed out and caught the attacking fox on it's rump. I was once again without words- a snow white Kitten was attacking this fox... And winning! It's persistence done away with the creature, and soon enough I was once again safe, oweing my life to the common house cat.

I was scared the cat may be feral at first, but those thoughts were quickly dispelled by it immediately trotting over to me, allowing me to pat my hero and offer some meat from suitcase. I'm wondering if the food itself could have been the cause of the problem in the first place...

Either way, the creatures have given me an idea. Could it be safe to say they had come from the outside? Would it be that far of a stretch that I may just stumble upon a way out by going deeper into the tunnels? I did find a derelict staircase earlier...

I've gone ahead with my earlier plan of heading down deeper into the dungeons, and almost immediately I arrived in a room exactly as the ones before. I'm not sure how large this place is, but I was able to explore for almost as long as I was on the floor above. I hadn't spotted any other creatures, but I have in my possession nearly triple the amount of gold. I will be a very rich man when I am rescued.

The Kitten continues to follow me. I go long whiles without seeing it, then there it is, a streak of white back as quickly as it had gone. I'm wondering if I should name it... The creature certainly makes me feel safer, that I am not alone in these ancient brick walls.

But...

It's almost as if the back of my mind is trying to tell me someone else is here. I hear counting of all things, rarely while exploring. I am debating writing this at the risk of sounding insane but I may h..e .ven .een...

<There is faint writing here, as if It existed at some point but was erased.>

I found a rather old looking leash today. I have considered putting it on my feline companion, as I don't think it right to be leaving on it's own anymore...
