In an effort to keep myself distracted and because it feels like a fun thing to do, I will be starting a new video project along the lines of the character diaries a few of us started (and in my case gave up on due to bugs).
So why am I posting here? Well I thought it'd be cool to post the diaries here, so you guys essentially get to read the scripts long before they go online! That might be worth a damn someday.
Each episode will cover one in game day, so to that end I will be avoiding quick travelling. I may use it from time to time if I'm in a really bad way in game (because frankly I still want to have fun!), but it'll mostly be avoided so I have more to write about. I may even get into the habit of not using it in other games too!
For those of you who are interested, I'll post my mods I'm using down below. Otherwise I hope you enjoy!

Mad Doodles Project: The Fallout Diaries
Mad Doodles Project: The Fallout Diaries
Ohhhh boy, where to begin...
I know I've not written in a while. Vault duties and all that jazz. But today... today has warranted a new start to my journal. That and the important need to stave off brain damage.
It all started when I was woken up by Amata this morning. Something was up, she doesn't get that distressed over nothing, and I couldn't quite believe her when she informed me that Dad had run away, he'd escaped from the Vault! Not only that, the damned Overseer had ordered security to murder Jonas, and I was next! I had to get out of there as fast as possible, so grabbing what supplies I could I began to make my escape. I had to reach the Overseers office and find some secret tunnel.
I can tell you know though, it wasn't easy. An all too convenient Radroach infestation was occurring at the same time and the tunnels had never seemed for confined. I would have kept running and not looked back if not for Butch. That damned thug needed my help.
His mother was being attacked by roaches. I couldn't believe it, after all these years that bastard needed me to save his drunken mother... well today was a day for the unusual. I helped in the end, if only to save her a horrible death at the mandibles of the roaches. I won't lie though, I almost regret it as a bunch of the Overseers goons charged at me with little to fight with. All I could do was run.
Eventually I managed to reach administration. Ducking down to avoid being seen myself I saw Amata being interrogated by Officer Mack and her father. I didn't know what to do. I was too hurt to be any good in a fight now and escape was so close... I had to leave, I had to hope she could escape. The Overseer wouldn't hurt her own daughter right?
It paid off in the end. I managed to hack in the computer and grab the password to this secret tunnel, but not before reading up on this Vault's dirty little secrets. People had explored the world outside, found life! I also found that... that we were nothing but an experiment. We were never supposed to leave. Born in the Vault, die in the Vault. Well I was about to leave it far behind.
I ran down the tunnel, which led to the giant Vault door. I'd only seen it once or twice, no one had any real reason to go there really. I had hit the button to open the vast door and was about to run outside when Amata showed up, having managed to escape after all. I tried to convince her to come with me, to escape this nightmare the Vault had become but she insisted on staying behind. I hope she'll be okay... maybe I can come back someday.
Seeing the world for the first time... that was something. There was nothing but bright light for the first few seconds but my vision slowly returned and what lay before me... It was amazing and terrible all at the same time. I wandered over to a cliff edge with a little sign that said "scenic point", I think. I saw the remains of what I think were buildings that were called houses before The Great War. They wouldn't me much shelter at all, but in my pain addled mind I remembered about Megaton, and figured it'd be better to go somewhere with people than to try and stick it out around here.
Climbing up a small hill I found Megaton before too long. I have to admit, I thought it was just a pile of scrap before the giant rusty gates were raised. I was greeted by a friendly, if somewhat run down looking robot and then upon entering town I was greeted and an actual human being! There really was life out here in the wastes! He seemed friendly enough, called himself Sheriff Lucas Simms. Conversation turned to the bomb in the middle of town.
Oh yea, there’s a whacking great bomb in the middle of town.
Apparently the town has just lived with the thing, and some people even worship it! Well hoping that I might get some medical aid in return for disarming the thing, I offer to do just that. I’ve tinkered with a fair few things in my time, I reckoned an old bomb wouldn’t be too much trouble. I carefully approached the device, fearing that the worshippers may not take kindly to my tinkering, but managed to disarm it with little trouble.
It seems my plan was worth it after all, since I was given a home in town and just enough money to have my fairly serious injuries seen to by the local doctor. Bit of a grumpy sort, but he cares about his work. Whilst there I asked about the people in town and it turns out of residents seems to have a jet problem… whatever jet is. A kind of drug I gather, since the doctor said he uses it as aesthetic sometimes. He can’t get through to the man but mused that I may have more luck. Maybe I can get in this doctors good book if I can.
With my wounds healed my thoughts turned to trying to get some information about my Dad. A few people pointed me towards a Colin Moriarty. When I found him I was greeted by a slimy looking fellow with a funny accent. He ran the bar known as, oddly enough, Moriary’s Saloon. This is where things got even weirder.
So apparently, my Dad was never actually born in the Vault. And neither was I. I- I couldn’t believe it! I didn’t. But he just laughed at how brainwashed I was and insisted it was true. Well, I told him in the end that I knew it all along and that I was just joking (a complete lie, but whatever), and even though I think he didn’t quite believe me, he still told me what I needed to know, that apparently he’d headed off to some Galaxy News Radio off in the ruins of DC. Maybe he felt sorry for me, or my Dad. I don’t know, and I wasn’t going to concern myself too much with it.
Afterwards my mind turned to getting more money. After my medical treatment I was utterly broke, and this world seems like a bad one to be broke in. I wandered into the local shop, a place called Craterside Supply, to see if I could sell anything. I had a couple of things I didn’t need, like Butches stupid jacket.
The woman running the shop, Moria, is very… upbeat. About everything. Before I could even begin to talk about selling stuff she offered me work in some book she wanted to write, a Wasteland Survival Guide. With not much better to do and completely unable to look for my Dad without medical supplies or weapons I agreed. I’m starting to wonder if that was a mistake, even with the new armoured Vault suit.
The first job I agreed to do was get affected by radiation poisoning. What a great start! Well I was already afflicted with a little radiation from disarming the bomb and Moria had promised to sort it all out. Well… what was the worst that could happen?! All I had to do was stand around for a little bit and then I’d get free treatment and some goodies to help sort myself out in the future. I got MUTATED, that’s what! Well, I shouldn’t be too angry I suppose, it’s not like she forced me and according to my Pip-Boy my body will repair any broken limbs… if I get really sick with radiation again. What a lovely mutation that’ll be.
Next up I agreed to head to a little place called Minefield to check out the mines there and maybe even get a mine for her to look at. So I stocked up on supplies and headed out into the Wasteland. On my way there I encountered more people who proceeded to shoot at me with not warning. Whoop-de-friggin’-do! Before I knew it was out of ammo and throwing some grenades I found at the, erm, bandits I guess, running for my life! Well I managed to loot whatever weapons I could from them and a coat to try and disguise myself a little more, I figured a bright blue jumpsuit may be too obvious as it turns out. This wasn’t before I got a nasty blow to the head mind, and I struggled to get back into town. With no money for more medical attention and the stim packs doing nothing for the head injury I headed back home to rest.
So here I am, in a tin shack of a house and a fuzzy head writing about strange happenings after a lifetime in the Vault. I have no money, no supplies and no hope of finding Dad at the moment. I did however make a new friend. He seems to be an Iguana.
I’m going to call him Steve.
