Mage of Mist's Characters

Name: Thorn-Dancer
Gender: Plant, though prefers to be referred to as a female.
Race: Floran
Occupation: Knight of Insanity
Appearance:
http://community.playstarbound.com/threads/connorsess-art-taking-requests.65077/page-2#post-2609192
Normal/Casual Attire:
Kata Attire:
(Originally just the Snow Infantry Set, but I thought this looked better)
Hunting Attire (Ana):
Height: 6 ft 7
Aura Colour: Bright Yellow
Abilities + Skills: Thorn-Dancer is stronger and faster than the average human and can see in very low light conditions. She knows how to use various different weapons, from daggers and maces to bows and guns. Thorn-Dancer can also read Binary code. Thorn has also been learning fire magic, though she is not the best at it... She is a quick learner and often makes strategies on boosting the effectiveness of her magic, such as using arrows coated in oil to fuel the magical fire she conjures and at the same time, launch the fiery arrow at a target.
Also due to her unique biology, charm magic does not effect her the same way it does with fleshy beings. She can sense the magic being used on her... It is just her body doesn't know how to respond to the alien energy and thus just makes her feel odd.
"Florans gain energy and nutrients by a combination of photosynthesis and digestion of food. Photosynthesis would produce glucose while emitting oxygen, to provide energy, and digestion of meat (and possibly plant matter) would provide the nutrients to grow." (Starbound Wiki)
Equipment:
Thorn-Dancer would often be considered naive and silly due to the way she speaks and over-excitable and enthusiastic attitude, however despite the way Thorn-Dancer acts off the hunt... She is a lot more intelligent and vicious than one would think. Thorn-Dancer is a typical Floran, focusing on survival, getting stronger and reproduction, the three basic instincts, and does not care if her chosen meal happens to be sentient or not...
Thorn-Dancer is a fast learner and often forms complex and creative strategies when it comes to hunting down prey... Or her enemies. When one encounters a plant-like being, they often expect them to be peaceful, harmless little flowers... Though Thorn-Dancer uses this misinformation to her advantage.
However, despite this, Thorn-Dancer isn't evil. In-fact, the best way to describe her alignment would be 'Chaotic Neutral.' She doesn't kill out of spite or malice, only for survival, and is more than willing to help what would be prey if she saw some benefit out of it. To her, killing a human for example would be just doing what she can to survive, and isn't anymore wrong compared to killing and eating an animal. That is Thorn-Dancer's logic she sticks to. However, Thorn-Dancer would never hunt anyone who has helped her, anyone she has helped or anyone that she just takes a liking to as they are out of the prey zone and into the friend zone.
She is also a fiercely independent Floran. Very proud in nature and would do anything within her power to retain her freedom. It is impossible to tame her, but rather become her friend. However, despite her stubbornly self-reliant nature, Thorn adores the company of others that show her love and as long as her boundaries are respected, earning her trust. Once befriended, Thorn is a powerful and loyal ally at all times, caring greatly for those she accepts into her family... Her coon-kin.
Thorn is an emotional wreck who at the same time is very strong in enduring such feelings that she has... She still feels bad when she sees everyone being all lovey-dovey, but does her best to hide it... But blames what she is on the fact she hasn't found anyone yet.
Thorn due to being around fleshy beings so long has started to... Well, loathe not being like them and envying her coon-kin because they are so different from her in so many ways it... Really hurts the poor plant... Jent and Swix are having a child and Thorn is still well... Alone... She knows if she ever got in a relationship with someone of another race, she'd never have such a close bond like Swix and Jent do... And also knows she would never be able to experience pleasure the same way or even experience the joys (and even the down sides) of pregnancy due to how her race's reproduction works.
She wishes to defend her coon-kin... Which she feels a strong desire to hunt and eat due to her hunting instincts, and wishes to re-link with her old friend Vineblade, but got scared away after hearing of Vine's possessive lover who would apparently kill everyone Thorn cares for if the Floran ever drew blood or even made Vine sad... A thing Thorn does not wish to risk at all. She used to hunt at night and enjoyed it, where she had the cover of darkness before arriving in Pax... Now she hates the idea of going out at night and is even weary of hunting in the day, being scared of almost every shadow in fear of C.
Thorn hides these insecurities the best she can around her coon-kin, acting cheerful and happy, but when she is alone... She is often found sitting in her room thinking quietly to herself... After having so much trouble with mental silence and having mental links formed... The Floran still chooses to suffer in silence rather than to trouble those who she cares for. She knows they would be unable to help her with her insecurities, which is why she tries to keep these feelings to herself so her coon-kin does not worry... The time when she was about to explain these issues in depth, in a meeting, she was interrupted before she could even start and then lost all the courage that she had managed to muster up.
Weakness':
Thorn-Dancer is afraid of fire and electricity, since her body is highly flammable she has good reason too. Thorn-Dancer can also be distracted rather easily, and can switch from hunting mode to chatty mode within seconds if her prey catches her interest in some way.
Thorn-Dancer is also rather gullible, and could easily be manipulated by others if they are out of her food category and into the friend one.
"Notes on Floran Biology:
Due to a reliance on natural water sources thanks to the Floran's [REDACTED] roots, it transpires that Floran biology leaves individuals susceptible to extreme heat. All Florans know that fire equals danger, but many are unaware of the toll that dry, humid conditions can take on the body.
Prolonged exposure to desert climate can leave Florans in a mummified, barely living state, before they eventually succumb to the elements, crumbling to dust. As the species expands its territory, it has been important to find ways in which the Florans can adapt their biology in order to survive inhospitable climes."
History: Not much is known about Thorn-Dancer's history, despite from the fact that she was part of a large coon-kin (Family in Floran, short for Cocoon-Kin) and was, and still is, a hunter of great skill. Thorn-Dancer doesn't talk much about the past, saying she prefers to focus on surviving in the present.
A rough idea of what her ship was like/her room in the temple HQ.
Thorn has a more technical and modern taste in decor, though she kept her traditional Floran bed as a keepsake of her Coon-kin. =P
Her 'room' is like a mini base in itself. XD
I also have gotten quite fond of the green/gold combo in colours, they both go surprisingly well together.
<hr />
For those who do not know much on how Floran think and talk... These pretty much sum it up:
"A Floran's Goal:
Ssstab. Ssstab, sssmash, hunt. Find glory, make good Floran. Ssstab. Get best kill. Win all of Florans. Sssow ssseeds of discord. Punch all of the prey.
Making friends would be nice too."
"Charcoal Writing:
Stab. Stab. Stab. Floran stab. Not learn numbers. Only count stabs. Floran not need times tables.
[Underneath, a 'D' has been written in red marker]"
And lastly...
"Tick, tock, tick, tock, hehehe."
(Observing a Glitch Wall Clock)
They are a crazy, terrifying, yet oddly adorable and amusing race... Which is why I love RPing as them so much! XP

Name: Radish
Gender: Plant, though Thorn calls it a her.
Specie: Plant Python.
Appearance:
Length: 7 ft
Abilities: Is a plant-snake... Can dig underground with only it's leaves on the surface to absorb nutrients from the earth and photosynthesis, or just lay on a warm rock to photosynthesis. It has no venom, as it is a constrictor and by coiling itself around it's prey, it can tighten itself around them, squeezing the air out of it's prey and then when the prey is dead, Radish unhinges it's jaws and swallows it's prey whole. Much like a common earth-snake. Radish also has a sensitive forked tongue it uses to 'smell' the air around it, it can also see based on heat, the more warmer something is, the more attractive it is to Radish.
Personality: Lazy and docile. Usually found either basking in the sun or buried in the ground like a... Radish, earning it's name. It doesn't mind being lifted up and handled by other people, as it enjoys the warmth and thus tends to coil around, 'hug', and squeeze people who handle it, even when Radish has no intention on consuming them. Whilst it normally hunts for food, Radish will not turn down someone offering it an easy meal, whether it would be a dead deer or a slab of meat.
Whilst lazy, and acts mostly like an earth-snake... There are some oddities in the plantile's behaviour. It likes to fetch things such as balls and sticks, much like a dog. It also likes to follow people around and shows quite a lot of curiosity, and even affection, which many find odd for a snake.

Name: Fern-Biter
Gender: Plant. Thorn calls it a him.
Race: Genetically Modified Flora Canine.
Occupation: Pet of a Knight of Insanity
Appearance:
Height: 5 ft tall on all fours.
Aura Colour: Emerald Green
Abilities:
Fern-Biter has a strong jaw full of razor sharp, thorn-like teeth, sharp claws and strong legs. This allows him to forcefully leap at his foes/prey to knock them off their feet to make them vulnerable to any attacks by his allies. Fern-Biter is very agile and swift, using these skills to chase sticks thrown, or to chase down prey.
He is also able to dig quickly to unearth buried food/treasure.
Fern-Biter also has a powerful sense of smell and memory, being able to track those he knows via scent. Also like a canine, Fern-Biter has a powerful sense of hearing, being able to pick up sounds that ordinary people cannot hear, such as dog whistles for example. Fern-Biter can also see in low light conditions.
Fern-Biter has a mental link with his master, Thorn-Dancer, allowing them to communicate in complete silence, which aids the both of them when hunting.
Fern-Biter has some magical affinity, unlike his master, and with a mighty howl he can cast regenerative magic to nearby allies, and he himself using his plant affinity to rapidly regenerate wounds. Fern-Biter can also glow a soft green light on command... This being a trait he earned from the local plants of Ana.
Personality:
Fern-Biter views Thorn-Dancer and her friends as part of his pack, and Thorn being the leader and his master. He is extremely loyal and will fight fiercely for his pack in order to defend them and with Vine, to provide food for allies via hunting.
Though Fern-Biter is weary of strangers, he will not attack without reason. Acting aloof towards them and the most he does is growl and bark at the strangers when they approach in an attempt to scare them off. However if given food, Fern-Biter will quickly become your friend for life.
Fern-Biter is highly social and loves behind his ears being scratched and his belly being rubbed, and also adores playing fetch. He is also highly intelligent and enjoys preforming tricks in return for treats. He is also a big lapdog and often jumps onto people's laps for a cuddle. So even though he is a fierce and skilled hunter, he is a big puppy at heart towards those he and his master care for.
History:
Thorn-Dancer was having issues with hunting due to her red-leafed colouration giving her away in the more green plantlife of Ana, and she was getting bored of fishing and hunting small game such as birds and occasionally deer and that large prey was much harder and more dangerous to take down by herself... So she decided to make herself her own hunting partner and pet using the equipment in her room, which is a complete and detailed replica of the interior of her own ship.
Using both her own DNA, from an unfertilized Floran seed and the DNA of a canine she hunted. As well as the DNA of some of the local plants on Ana, Thorn created Fern-Biter. Her loyal pet, trusted hunting partner and cherished friend.

"Florans gain energy and nutrients by a combination of photosynthesis and digestion of food. Photosynthesis would produce glucose while emitting oxygen, to provide energy, and digestion of meat (and possibly plant matter) would provide the nutrients to grow." (Starbound Wiki)
Equipment:
- A stainless steel dagger that she always keeps nice and sharp.
- A wooden longbow.
- Arrows tipped with sharpened stone or iron.
- Spears.
- Twin Terra Dao Blades. They have an affinity at controlling non-sentient plant life, but are largely dependent on the user's affinity, power and skill. When unsheathed, the swords have a bronze likeness to them, though they appear fairly dull all around with no real edge to them, until the user charges magic into them in which the blades will sharpen.
- Soul Robber, made of Vitrum flexile it allows her to enter someone's mind as long she maintains physical contact with that glove, by connecting the user's soul to another's. It could also be used to rob souls... But that requires a lot of will-power and skill to do.
- A shiny green wristband with the Floran insignia of a red flower on it. It is made of Vitrum flexile and acts as a both a databank for storing information and experiences she doesn't wish to forget, and also allows her to link up with the minds of others if they keep contact with the screen. It also contains her Simulacrum, designed in the likeness of a particular Floran she knew, she finds it relaxing to 'escape' into the wristband to talk with her simulacrum about what has been troubling her.
Those who link up with the Floran in her own mindscape would find themselves in an awe-inspiring scene, a large meadow full of various types of flowers, some even gigantic, ranging from giant daisies, rose-like trees and huge bluebell-like plants. It would be at night with a large desert planet in the background and the stars twinkling in the night sky... Not just that though, but the weather is sparkling rain, a beautiful sparkling 'rain' that illuminates the surroundings as if falls and vanish upon hitting the ground, not causing any damage to the surroundings. - A freeze ray/freeze gun upgraded by a borg. It has a sleek design and a faint green glow.
- A leather backpack.
- Flasks for carrying water for on long journeys.
- Dried meat, or as humans call it, Jerky.
- Dried Fruits.
- A universal translator.
- Poisons and Antitoxins/Antidotes.
- Some other stuff such as books, spare clothes and first aid kits.
- A golden tiara, white dress and diamond necklace... Rarely ever worn though.
