A very small lizard crawled along the ground, sniffing at the 'S.O.S' written there. It had turquoise scales, and thin, scrawny wings. Upon closer examination, it had claws, and wasn't built exactly like any normal lizard, but more like it had cat somewhere in it's pedigree. It had that same lazy pride that most felines seemed to exhibit. It licked an eye once, then a paw. Then it looked up at Mary.

"What does Ess-Oh-Ess mean?" It asked, smelling the letters closely.
There was an audible churning in the creature's gut.
"And do you have anything to eat?"

(Mary)

Mary tilted her head at the strange dragon-Cat Creature then said

"S.O.S is a popular word for people in truble, Many people oftan class it as saying 'Save our souls' But it realy hasn't got a meaning"

Marry then sighed "Sadly, I wasn't expecting to be taken to an alien world so i didn't pack any supplies, and I was Origanarily doing a short walk through the forest too, If I had food I would share it with you. But Realy I just have a treebranch, I'm guessing your not a herbivore?"

((Sorry for the wait Swix, I've been a bit busy with RL lately :(

Those of you who don't want to read a long post can skip this one entirely :P ))

"To know that the great Blue Lady is using my gifts, regardless of what she uses them for, will do the Sommeliers before me proud." The Sommelier replied, hinting that, unlike some others, he would be perfectly non-judgemental towards Fade no matter what she chose to use the curious elixir for.

He, like Fade, then turned his attention to the healer and Coolpikaaa, hoping to see some kind of progress... but either this was a very lengthy process or he simply lacked the knowledge and/or skill to see it. Fortunately for the Sommelier, Fade sought to fill the void with conversation on a topic that he was fairly knowledgeable about.

"That is a difficult question to answer. Blackstar is one of the great paradoxical realms, now forever trapped in an eternity of ruin. Time no longer has any meaning there, and it's history is lost. One wonders whether realms like this are destined for doom, considering the fate of Forumopolis - you are no doubt familiar with this realm as well?" He looked about, seeking a place to sit, but found nothing that he would be willing to rest his finely clothed posterior against. It was a forest, after all. Stretching his legs a little, he continued. "To answer your question as best as I can you left shortly before the end... or at least, the you that is standing before me did."

He paused for a moment, as though questioning whether he truly wanted to elaborate on this remark. Ultimately he decided that he did, for if he did not he would just be causing needless confusion. "Forgive me for being so cryptic, but the topic encroaches upon a rather existentially confusing theory that has some repute, both good and bad, by many great thinkers. Some call it 'The Cornelius Effect', after another paradox of both realms; the infamously mortal-yet-immortal Cornelius, of Evil Council fame... This name is used mockingly just as often as it is used seriously, mind you." The Sommelier began, introducing a topic that he had puzzled over himself for quite some time. He hoped that the Blue Lady could provide some insight. "You will recall, I imagine, that Blackstar had upon it a rather specific curse that affected all who inhabited it: anybody can enter freely, but nobody can ever leave. And perhaps, if you can remember even further back, that Forumopolis had a similar rule."

"Knowledge of both rulers causes many to ask: how is it then that we can hear whispers of legends such as yourself from both realms?"

The Sommelier paused for a moment, feeling that a rhetorical conundrum such as this deserved a some time to sink in for effect. "It is not a question easily answered. The details vary greatly from one person to another, but in essence 'The Cornelius Effect' is a principle that when you cannot take something from somewhere then a paradoxical copy is created to allow you to do so... without actually doing so. Thus those who entered Blackstar were not the exact same as those who lived in Forumopolis; they were new copies created, and the originals were left in the chaotic ruins of the old realm."

"Of course, some argue that the Psychotic God, Au'Marui, had a hand in this, leading a glorious exodus from Forumopolis to his promised lands, but others dismiss this as nonsense. Au'Marui, powerful God that he was, found himself bound by the rules of his own kind. In Blackstar he was the alpha and omega, but in Forumopolis he never wielded such power. He could not break the seals that trapped others there, just as some suspect that he could not break his own."

"If I may be so bold as to answer a question that is often asked: there is no difference between an original and a paradox clone at the moment of their creation; their past, their minds and their bodies are exactly the same. The second they are created however, their futures diverge." He found a suitably slender stick conveniently by his feet and drew a series of lines on the ground. "Should 'The Cornelius Effect' theory be true, this means that there would be at least three versions of yourself that I am aware of, and perhaps many more than that. The you from Forumopolis, the you from Blackstar, and the you from Pax. Of course, the odds of the you from Blackstar still being alive are almost non-existent. The realm was entirely built upon the Psychotic God's power, and his death spelt the end of all. Most people who believe in 'The Cornelius Effect' discount Blackstar as a particularly doomed realm due to it's unstable nature."

"Forumopolis, on the other hand, is a very different story..." He began, but then realized that he had been speaking for a very long time. How frightfully rude of him, he thought, now deeply regretting that he had talked at such length to answer what had initially been a very simple question. "But this is all theory, impossible to prove, and perhaps best saved for another time? I suspect that I may be boring you."

"Oh, that's okay. I'm not that hungry." It said, climbing up her shoulder and looking at Furnace. "So, you're the dragon that's been causing trouble? Bah, you're still so young that you think power is the most important thing there is." The small dragon kept a serious face, despite it's inwards grinning.

"Your suspicion that you are 'boring' me is incorrect" Fade replied to The Sommelier, she had been stood listening quietly to his chosen topic because she found it interesting-and he seemed quite eager to discuss it "though I was unaware of this theory before" The second was more of a comment that he had provided her something to think about, and did not require another back.

The assassin then kneeled on the floor-her clothes were already ripped, had a hole in them, and had been introduced to the ground here twice already. Some dirt on her kneecap was not something she believed worth her concern at this point. Fade added three more lines with her finger to the three that The Sommelier had drawn with his stick.

"There are at least five realms I have been in that hold that curse" Fade amended "the one called Nightfires Mansion was a realm I found myself in before Albia2000, Forumopolis, RPCentral, Blackstar and here. Should this theory prove correct, there would be six versions of me" perhaps the word 'were' would be more appropriate, since at least four of the realms listed were now in ruins and chaos. But she was getting a little off track there.

"My home realm, called by some Dimension-X, held no such curse as far as I know. From there I was snatched and dumped in an ancient realm without a name-the birthplace of the 'False Vampires'-again, no curse as far as I am awase. Then there were the two pocket dimensions attached to Dimension-X. After that we come back to Nightfires Mansions. Most of the rest of my travels you appear to be familiar with"

Fade stated to the well dressed gentleman. Well, there wasn't really any harm in telling him. All she'd given were dimensional names, nothing too personal nor detailing any of her exploits.

"However, during Blackstar's beginning and close to Forumopolis end I was 'jumping' between both places. Does this theory account for how someone could not only manage this, not bump into their 'paradoxical selves' and still retain a linear memory, as I do?"

The subject had managed to pique her interest, at least. And it was preferable to standing in silence whilst they waited.

Furnace would have snorted again, but he was busy molding the cave to a preferable state. The little dragon, Shadow, interested him but the green creature resting m Marys shouldes was probably going to prove an irritation.

~It doesn't sound like your parents had much imagination Shadow-just melting rocks is boring. You could have made great shapes and patterns, caverns and lairs of your own with that talent~

Finished, the adolescent beast stopped breathing his flame, opened his narrow wings, and began flapping them enough to help cool the lava-but not enough to take off. "What do you know about it?" he asked the tiny green draconic creature, slightly miffed.

(Mary)

Mary was confused and was still a little scard

She then squeaked "Um..."

She then looked around then saw a small tree inbetween the Ledge she was on and another ledge and thaught about being able to jump it

Mary then sighed

(Shadow)

Shadow sighed then sent back ~Yeah, My Parents make me have to do boring lessions, The onley fun lessions I'v ever had was Flying Lessions and fighting Lessions... and my First Fire Breathing Lessions, And the onley fun I oftan have is playfighting with my brothers and sisters and Sneaking out into the Surface world~

She then looked at the Strange turquoise Dragonish/Catish creature confusidly then asked curiusly "Who are you?"

"Please forgive me for my foolish assumption then." The Sommelier replied, dipping his head slightly in an act of respectful apology. He listened as Fade continued, describing the various realms that she had been in. It seemed that the Blue Lady had done quite a bit of travelling in her time, and he had not heard of many of these places, but considering that they were all now ruined or doomed it probably didn't matter too much. It was unusual to hear that so many realms held this kind of disastrous curse, was it through attempting to force people to stay that they ultimately failed, or was it mere co-incidence?

"This... 'jumping' that you describe is not well documented." The Sommelier began, thinking back to his time in the order. "It's quite difficult to describe in a simple manner, and much of the science of this matter eludes me, but... I'm told it helps to think of yourself as two parts of a whole - a mind and a body. The body can be copied easily, an infinite number of times provided that you have the materials, but the mind can only exist in one place at one time. Thus, it is not your body that 'jumps', but your 'mind'."

He paused for a moment, struggling to think of a decent analogy for this. "It is like when you copy one document between two computers in two different rooms. The document can exist in two places at once, but you cannot access both at the same time. Think back on the paradoxical rule of 'anybody may enter, but nobody may leave'. Imagine now that you can choose to enter these realms, and that by simply entering, you are writing in a new rule: 'I exist here'. 'I' in this case is represented by you and everything about you the moment you enter - your past, your memories, your body and mind, everything that makes you what you are. Think of your 'body' as a document detailing every intimate detail of your personage... A 'profile', of sorts. As long as a realm has your 'profile', you will exist in it in some way, even when you are not consciously there. Your mind, on the other hand, is like a transferable consciousness that takes on the role of your 'body' (ie: your profile) wherever it can - a 'role player', if you will."

"Of course, things still happen when you are not there. The realm and all those who dwell within it change regardless of whether you are there to witness them or not. Your body without your consciousness is essentially on auto-pilot during the time that you are not there, at least from your perspective. It acts in a way that it believes that you would, for as long as is necessary. The less time you spend away from it, the less you notice this."
He paused once more, thinking back and trying to remember as much as he could, for this next part was rather complex. "... The longer your 'role player' spends away from your 'profile', the more likely it is that greater differences will develop between the two, especially across multiple 'profiles'."

He thought for a moment or two, apparently dissatisfied with his explanation. "I am oversimplifying this a little too much. It is, in actuality, far more complicated than I make it out to be. And such drastic changes are not experienced by everybody."

"Forumopolis is the common example given to help explain the more unusual aspects of 'The Cornelius Effect'. A realm plunged into darkness, it exists, but 'role players' cannot access it - if you try to 'jump' into it as you did in previous times you will find that it is not entirely possible. Now, imagine what you would be like in a realm where sight was rendered useless, suddenly and without warning. Do you think that you would be exactly the same person as you are here?"

"I know more than you, in that I don't need to make myself larger and stronger and more supposedly-powerful than anything else, or torment random people who can't fight back." The creature said, almost spitting the words at the dragon.

"the last thing I want is a angry dragon shooting fire in my direction..."

Fade listened to The Sommeliers more detailed explanation of this 'Cornelius Effect' theory. She didn't even nod or hm to herself, as one might expect when someone is thinking. The word 'role player' had a memory come to the surface-hadn't she also been to a realm that was claimed by one 'role player' to be called IRL? Or... was it... No, no, nothing like that could have possibly happened, it must have been a dream. The memory receded, lost once again, as Fades eyes resumed their cold, calculating look-as opposed to the slightly unfocused one they had taken on a few seconds before. Besids, his question puzzled her.

"This theory proposes a fundamental difference of body and consciousness-namely that a consciousness is a separate entity from the body, thus enabling it to move between realms so long as the copy and the realm exist. That is as I understand from your explanation" Fade said, not ignoring The Sommeliers question but attempting to first show what she understood as she returned to her standing position "it is understandable. Some mutants have the ability to separate their consciousness from their body and roam unheeded for a time-but I digress. I do not believe I understand your question. Are you proposing that my 'role player' would change my 'profile' to enable both to survive in such a place?"

This time Furnace did snort, the flames escaping from his nostrils almost instantly put out by the action of his wings.

"This joke was getting old anyway" the dragon said, more to Shadow and himself than anyone else as he dropped back onto his forelegs. Furnace turned his head on his long neck to regard the little creature with fiery eyes, along with the Princess. "I'm bored now. Mary, this has nothing to do with you being a Princess. I really have no idea why any dragon would give a damn. And you, little whatever you are, when I'm fully grown I'll show you what a Dragon of a Dark Prophecy can do!"
Furnace told them all angrily, then walked into the newly formed cave, swishing his spiked tail in a mood. "Do as you will Shadow, I like you-but I no longer care what happens to any others here"

Shadow sighed "Yeah the Joke is VERY old, I'm guessing Ancient, Stealing a princess is one of the oldist Jokes in history, Through, Many dragons stole princesses from kingdomes they didn't like, and for revenge if the King or Queen or Both of that kingdom did somthing wrong to anger that dragon"

Shadow then mumbled "There are some dragons that chosen to become partners with the Surface dwellers, or as Furnace calls them 'Soft skins', And some even let the Surface Dwellers RIDE on them, I wouldn't like being treated like a flying horse..."

Shadow then sniffed the rock then giggled "limestone!" then took a bite out of it then swallwed it

(Mary)

Mary tilted her head at what furnace said then tilted her head to the other side at what Shadow was saying,

Mary then asked "Um, I'v always wonderd about how dragons are able to breath Fire?"

(Shadow)

Shadow giggled "The Limestone mixed with stomach acid makes hydrogen that is lighter than air. Which is one ways a dragon can fly, and when I sawllow the Rock the Rock scratches a thimbol like thing at the top of my mouth making static electricity, When I breath fire, The Static is released and the Hydrogen becomes Egnited and becomes fire like this"

Shadow then took in a deep breath then shot some fire at a rock and made it go red and then Giggled "I think it's amazing"

(Mary)

Mary was amazed then giggled

"Cool, I think it's amazing too!"

Her ears perked up as she was no longer as scard but was now amazed

Fade listened to The Sommeliers more detailed explanation of this 'Cornelius Effect' theory. She didn't even nod or hm to herself, as one might expect when someone is thinking.

"Not exactly, although there are some who theorize that much." The Sommelier began, now really struggling to try and put what he wished to convey into plain and linear sentences that actually made sense, rather than just a bunch of rambling nonsense... Although to be fair, many people consider the Cornelius Effect theory to be nothing but rambling nonsense. "A rather recent yet intriguing line of thought has been that, in the absence of a 'role player', rather than simply exist in a state of limbo your 'profile' will attempt to create it's own 'role player' - a kind of autopilot mode, if you will."

"The longer a 'profile' is left to act as it's own 'role player', the further it will diverge from the original until it becomes something else entirely... Not entirely different to the 'mirror universe' theory, but rather than being a polar opposite of yourself your profile becomes a possible alternative of yourself."

He reached into one of his pockets, procuring what appeared to be a small disk. "This contains hypothetical data on Forumopolis; impossible for us to verify, but if the 'Cornelius Effect' theory is true it may not be far from reality." The disk had a single small button on it, which the Sommelier now pressed. Several holographic screens projected out from the disk, displaying all manner of data and imagery, though not very much of it was in English. "Behold, Forumopolis, as it is believed to exist now." The hologram displayed a ruined city, covered in fallen satellites and collapsed buildings. A particularly large structure towered over the rest of the city's ruins, a magnificent skyscraper reaching high up to where the clouds might have been, if this realm still had clouds. "The Evil Council's new headquarters." The Sommelier explained. "Your faction never had much of an opposition in Forumopolis, and if left unopposed then total domination is highly likely."

"Indeed" Fade replied simply to The Sommeliers explanation of what the building that dominated the theoretical landscape of the 'closed' realm of Forumopolis-though Fade looked drawn to the alternate headquarters. It seemed to the assassin that even in theory her original logic had been proven right "So should this theory be true then it is likely that there is an alternative version of myself, potentially still living in Forumopolis that diverged once my 'roleplayer' left and became unable to return-as would there be other Council members. Whilst my original would have perished long ago in Nightfires"
Here Fade paused, though many may find this train of thought depressing, she did not-however it struck her as something nevertheless deep. "It's an interesting theory, a pity that there is no way to verify it's validity. It would be intriguing to know what my alternate personality is currently doing in Forumopolis"
Would she have risen through the ranks to reach Elite status, as the 'Pax' Fade had? Or would she perhaps not have, for whatever reason? Despite this there were two things that Fade was certain an alternate version of herself would not have done-broken off or betrayed the EC. Which left a fairly broad scope for other possible changes.
"Two thoughts occur to me Sommelier, of the realms I listed with the curse, I know of only one bar this one that is still in existence and open-Albia2000 is that realm. It's also one I have not visited since shortly after I joined The Evil Council-nor do I have any intention to. If this theory is right, then the theorised other alternate of me should still be there. It should not be too hard for the scholars that provided you with this disc to verify that. The other thought, is that you refer to the 'Mirror Universe' as a mere theory- I can assure you that it exists"

"Hrrrmph" Furnace rumbled as he turned around within the newly formed, pleasantly smooth cave so his eyes looked out at the pleasantly dark night "Not all dragons breathe fire as yours Shadow, mine is purely magical. Constantly burning and contained within a second stomach-no need to swallow rocks"

Furnace looked to Shadow with what was a rather unreadable expression on his narrowed head-since he couldn't decide whether to be angry or confused or incredulous at this statement from the little black dragon. "Yes... Really. But before we talk anymore about this, where are you from?"
