Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a roleplay. A zombie roleplay. In SPAAAAACE!
Wanna join? Awesome. I'm attempting to keep the RP going like a story, so anything about characters and actions should be written in as if you were writing a story, like the passage below. I reckon this'll make for more cinematic storytelling. As a note on characters, don't use any existing ones, as you will very likely DIE. This isn't a sunshine and roses RP, this is more than likely to be a somewhat brutal story. Just come up with a name, and write the rest into the story, like so:
<blockquote class='quote_blockquote'><dl><dt>Quote:</dt><dd> </dd></dl><div>"It was Jim's first time in space, but he felt confidence in his security training, still fresh in his mind. He thought of his home back on Earth, a little village back on Kata, and prepared to board the starship."
[/quote]
Or something along those lines. it doesn't have to be in the same place, your info about your character can be spread out as much as you like!
Other than that, go nuts. A couple of restrictions on what characters can and cannot be like however (Don't worry, it's not many):
First of all, only plain ol' humans. In this universe (as gets explained) no sentient lifeforms in the known galaxy other than humans have been discovered, as such there are only human passengers. Second, You must start of in the starship. You may start of just before or after things kick off, that is up to you. I've left two handy places where you could start, but you could be anywhere on the ship when it all goes to hell! Other than that, do what you like, just don't get silly.
One last note, if all goes well this'll be a nasty and brutal story, with people dropping like flies at any second. This could be you. If you do feel like dropping out before your time, just PM me and I'll write you out in a suitably glorious way. If I plan to do anything that'll directly affect your character in a very major way, I'll let you know before hand.
That's about it! I hope anyone who joins in has fun and enjoys the story we write together.

Blackness. Vast blackness. There isn't much else in deep space, but recruits aren't told this of course.
"Come join the space exploration forces!" bright optimistic posters would cry "Your future is in the stars!"
It seems like a dream opportunity for those with stardust in their eyes. Strange new life, exciting new planets to explore, a shipload of new friends! The reality is far from that. Those who sail the black seas are mostly desperately in need of money, or have deluded themselves that the propaganda is real. the stars themselves are few and far between, never mind planets. As for the "exciting new life", a few planets have been discovered with new plant life, but nothing resembling an animal, and certainly not anything sentient. Never the less, eager new recruits turn up amongst the cynical majority of the crews of the starships, determined to find something out there in the big black.

Televisions all over the Galactic Union are broadcasting the news for this day is a special day indeed. A brand new starship launches today and it's the new flagship of the Union. Reporters keenly inform the citizens of the Union of it's latest achievement.
"The GUS Victory launches today, the first of the new Explorer class starships to set sail amongst the stars! As well as being the largest starship ever constructed; it can hold a crew of 500 and carry 100 more passengers, it features the latest technology in all areas. Bio-processors, holotouch screens and the most advanced medical systems of any ship in the fleet are but a fraction of what this amazing ship carries!"
The mood of the people is unusually high, the Union is finally moving forward since the colonization of the outer planets. High moral creates more workforce of the SEF, just what's needed for the flagship.
"-of course whilst new recruits are a welcome sight, such a ship requires a veteran command crew as well! Captain Morgan Avelance of the last flagship, the GUS Explorer; the very ship that charted the outer edges of the known galaxy, will be leading the crew of the Victory. Experts in other fields have also been assigned, assuring the success of the Victories mission."
The crew in question are Capitan Avelance; Chief Medical Officer Marget Thornson; the leading medical expert in interstellar diseases, Chief Engineer Lucy Foster; the very woman who designed and helped build the Victory, Professor Markus Kingly; expert in galactic phenomena, Lieutenant Tommy Hammerson; Chief of security, ex-military sergeant and tactical genious. He also boasts a mean left hook on account of his biomechanically enhanced body.
"And may the Victory fly safe and true though the enchanted mystery of the stars beyond!"

Captain Avelance adjusted his uniform a he walked down the corridor, a blue jumpsuit with a red patch running diagonally down one side and pips of rank on the collar, four for captain. He stopped at a large metal door, straightened his shining gold insignia, made sure his hair and beard were presentable and walked into the large briefing room. The rows of seats were filled with new recruits of all ranks and jobs, the yellow security officers, green medical officers, blue scientist and red commanding officers all bathed in an almost eerie blue light from the gargantuan monitor on the other side of the room, where Captain Avelance was now stood.
"Recruits, I'm sure you know why you're here. We've all been selected to venture beyond the known galaxy, and maybe we'll even find something."
Morgan could tell which recruits were in it for the "adventure" and which ones were in it for the money. He just had to look for the eyes growing wider.
"Now, I'm here to properlly introduce myself. My name is Morgan Avelance, you are to refer to me as Captain Avelance, or just plain old captain. Don't call me sir, I hate that. Now-"
Morgan was suddenly interrupted by the intercom.
"Captain, I need you to initiate a lock down of the medical bay! NOW!"
It was Chief Medical Officer Thornton, and there was panic in her voice. Morgan responded via his personal communicator.
"And why do I need to do tha-"
"JUST DO IT NOW!" Sounds of screaming could be heard over her voice "PLEASE FOR GODS SAKE LOCK IT DOWN!"
The captain wasted no time in initiating the lockdown, much to the confusion of the new crew. There was a horrible silence for a few moments, then over the intercom, something was heard. Something angry.
"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
Something filled with rage, smashing something, possibly the now locked doors.
"S-s-sir?" A young medical officer piped up "What's happening?"
The captain looked up at her, seeing the fear in her eyes.
"I don't know."
...
The medical bay was soaked in blood. Bodies were strewn about the previously crisp white room and one lone creature was left inside, smashing tables and doors in an attempt to escape it's prison. Out of the corner of it's eye it spotted someone behind the thick security glass looking into the corridor. A memory flashed in it's enraged mind, a name. Thornton. It smashed up against the glass and futility screamed at her and smashed it's fists against the glass. Thornton flinched for a second, then ran down the corridor. The creature, now left with no others to hunt down, no one to tear limb from limb, began looking for a means of escape. It looked to the ventilation shaft, and saw something had managed to jam the lockdown shutter open, at least open enough for the creature to squeeze through. And that it did.
Hurtling down the shaft, it sniffed out more prey. It sprinted past empty crew quarters and over the bridge, heading to the strongest smell of people, the mess hall.
...
The people in the mess hall had just heard the horrible screams over the intercom. People were starting to become scared, they yelled and gibbered at each other in fear. No one had any idea what was happening.
"Calm down everyone!" Lt. Hammerson yelled over the crowd "I'm sure everything is alright, the Captain will have initiated the lockdown and whatever panicked the Chief Medical Officer will be locked away, alright?"
People looked around and began to calm down. One of the engineers leaned against the wall and breathed a sigh of relief.
It was then the creature burst from the ventilation shaft just above him and attacked him. Before anyone could react the creature had moved on to another person and attacked them. In the panic no one noticed the engineer leap to his feet, a large chunk bitten from his arm and blood trickling from his now red eyes and lept at a young woman running for the exit. Hammerson managed to fight off the creatures and help some of the crew escape the mess hall, dodging the ever growing horde of monsters. As they bolted down the corridor, Hammerson could hear the muffled scream for help slowing fading away, only to be replaced with the screams of rage.
"We have to head for the bridge, come on!"
