Ahead in the Polls

In the midst of discussion, bouncing back thoughts between disagreements and adding their own voice to the air, Drausus quietly frowned. Clear that, even with town possessing ultimate veto power, appointees by the mayor appeared unfavorable. Not to mention at least one dissenting opinion questioning whether the town should even have a mayor. Seriously?

"Demokratia, its origins often attributed to the Greeks on my world, is not so clear cut in design," the Jentil mentioned to the crowd, getting a bit irate despite this calm tone. "Athens was not the only city-state to employ the practice, merely the most famous. Even the war-mongering Spartans employed a version at some point. None of those city-states gave full rights to vote for all the people living their either..."

Disent, no doubt rumbles of what is this man blabbering about. Not many here were human, and those who were might be unfamiliar with said history. Drausus figured a bit of a interjection of the word, and its related past, might assist in them thinking-

"Direct Democracy was short lived in that region, eventually its practitioners and neighbors conquered by the Macedonians. And they by other countries during the ages," he interjected at that point, before someone thought they take the spotlight just yet. "The same might not happen with the Encampment, but with so many cultures and histories amassed by this melting pot of a town, we need to learn from their mistakes. A leader, representative, either singular or plural should be appointed by our votes brought together. If done, I suggest we go by Tom's point of then appointing other positions of government through the same method."

The Distortionist wanted to elaborate the finer details of his plans of a structured government. He seen many rise and fall in his time alive. Yet imagined tension would bubble if he went on too long without another speaker raising their opinion soon enough. "And by that same notion, we also should vote on clarifying the rights of every individual. Lest we accidentally ostracise a group in our hindsight."

"I think I can live with that" Russel said after listening to all of Drausus points. The man wasn't unreasonable-merely highly critical of those he thought saw themselves as above mortals. It was part of the reason he liked Mitsuko so much, she never gave off that vibe.

Meanwhile, the huldu Viktor flipped a coin in boredom in the corner, and Abi leant back in her chair with a light smirk on her face as though she found this all very amusing.

Tom: So, people of the fledgling township we call The Encampment, we have two ideas brought forth. We can either rule by direct democracy, or we can elect a town council who will then elect amongst themselves the various positions. Which do you think we should do?
